Ease of access is rated from 1 star to 3 stars. You can find river flow information on the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.grandriver.ca\/waterdata\/kiwischarts\/rf_uppergrand.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grand River Conservation Authority<\/a><\/span><\/span> site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: large;\">Before a day's fishing it is always a good idea to pop in to speak to Tania or Scott at the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/ontarioflyfishing.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grand River Outfitters<\/a><\/span><\/span>; they will be willing to share with you the recommended fly of the day, and they are always on top of the daily conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: large;\">You should also check <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #333399;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.grandrivertroutfitters.com\/river\/grand-river\">this hatch chart<\/a><\/span> so that you will have a good idea of the usual hatches on the river.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">If you live in the area, and you wish to be involved in conservation efforts, contact anyone at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.friendsofthegrandriver.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Friends of the Grand<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. <span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">They do stellar work in maintaining the river and the access points.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: large;\">Some tips if you are planning a day on the Grand:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: large;\">It is worth noting that, in the early half of the season, as you travel upstream the waters are cooler the closer you get to the Shand dam. Because of this you are able to follow the insect hatches upstream from day to day. It can take a week for the Hendrickson hatch to migrate from Wilson's Flats up to the Dam area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: large;\">Also, if the waters are murky in the lower reaches it may be because of the contributions\u00a0from the Irvine River in Elora; the waters are\u00a0sometimes surprisingly much\u00a0clearer in the upper reaches on those days. It is a dirt road.<\/p>\r\n<p>There may be a sign half way across the entrance to Weisenberg Rd. that warns that there is no exit, but this is just to warn that there is no road beyond the bridge<\/p>\r\n<p>The road ends at the Iron Bridge.<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; Because of this you are able to follow the insect hatches upstream from day to day. It can take a week for the Hendrickson hatch to migrate from Wilson's Flats up to the Dam area.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: large;\">Also, if the waters are murky in the lower reaches it may be because of the contributions\u00a0from the Irvine River in Elora; the waters are\u00a0sometimes surprisingly much\u00a0clearer in the upper reaches on those days. Go through the lights at Scotland St and continue along Andrews St East. You will then take the right fork to Lamond St.<\/p>\r\n<p><img class=\"wp-image-6205 aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/iwffc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Approach-to-Lamont-off-Andrew-st.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"323\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Follow Lamond past the school and around a left curve.<\/p>\r\n<p>Keep going until you reach the T junction and turn right onto Anderson St North<\/p>\r\n<p><img class=\"wp-image-6204 aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iwffc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Exiting-Lamond-St.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>The parking lot is on the right.<\/p>\r\n<p><img class=\"wp-image-6203 aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iwffc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Anderson-St.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>From the parking lot you can take a direct path to the river or take a meandering path to the right.<\/p>\r\n<p>You should go through a small rivulet then past some brush then onto a flat rock that you can carefully descend into the river. There is also a continuance of the trail to your right through some cedars.<\/p>\r\n<p>You can access the river via a steepish path to your left or you can continue until the path takes you to a right elbow in the river.<\/p>\r\n<p>There are some deep pools in these areas.<\/p>\r\n<p>This is a shot taken in the morning at Snakies:<img class=\"wp-image-6206 aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iwffc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Snakies-600x337-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>There are some large browns to be caught; here is a video taken by chance one afternoon whilst fishing at Snakies. \u00a0(With apologies for the big thumb!).<\/p>\r\n<p>[embed]https:\/\/vimeo.com\/160523577[\/embed]<\/p>\r\n<p>This fish was caught,using a size 20 green midge pattern, then revived and released.<\/p>\r\n<p>Streamer patterns work well in early mornings at the beginning of the season, then caddis in either tan or black can be productive. Towards the end of the season you will find that a switch to a size 18 or 20 midge with fine tippet 6x or 7x will be needed.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=\"The Cedars *\" open_toggle_text_color=\"#0C71C3\" closed_toggle_text_color=\"#000000\" icon_color=\"#000000\" use_icon_font_size=\"on\" icon_font_size=\"30px\" _builder_version=\"4.14.4\" _module_preset=\"default\" background_color=\"#dbccb1\" background_enable_color=\"on\" global_colors_info=\"{}\" toggle_text_color=\"#000000\" toggle_font=\"|700|||||||\" toggle_text_align=\"left\" toggle_font_size=\"21px\" toggle_line_height=\"1em\" open=\"off\"]<\/p>\r\n<p>The Cedars and the Culvert Run can also be accessed by wading upstream from the Hydro Wires.<\/p>\r\n<p>An alternative and simpler access can be taken by\u00a0driving across\u00a0the river in Fergus then turning left onto Wellington Rd 18.<\/p>\r\n<p><img class=\"wp-image-6208 aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iwffc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Cedar-Run-Access.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>Fishing tight to the cedars with a dry, tan, deer hair caddis sized 14 or 16, or a blue winged olive in size 18 can be productive.<\/p>\r\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=\"2nd Line Bridge *\" open_toggle_text_color=\"#0C71C3\" closed_toggle_text_color=\"#000000\" icon_color=\"#000000\" use_icon_font_size=\"on\" icon_font_size=\"30px\" _builder_version=\"4.14.4\" _module_preset=\"default\" background_color=\"#dbccb1\" background_enable_color=\"on\" global_colors_info=\"{}\" toggle_text_color=\"#000000\" toggle_font=\"|700|||||||\" toggle_text_align=\"left\" toggle_font_size=\"21px\" toggle_line_height=\"1em\" open=\"off\"]<\/p>\r\n<p>Travelling further North along Wellington County Rd 18, you will see a the 2nd Line\u00a0Road on the left, just as the main road curves to the right.<\/p>\r\n<p>Turn Left on the 2nd Rd<\/p>\r\n<p><img class=\"wp-image-6215 aligncenter size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/iwffc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Approach-to-2nd-Line-Access.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"325\" \/><\/p>\r\n<p>There is limited parking on the right side of the 2nd Rd.
