We will meet at noon at the entrance of the Brant Conservation Area. Then we will enter the park and park our cars just below the dam. There is a small entrance fee to get into the Park. Have a lunch before meeting us at noon.

Mooneye Madness – An Evening on the Grand 11th June
Seneca Park (just a little south east of beautiful downtown Caledonia) 5 – 6 PM start.
We are sure conditions will be suitable this year however we have a backup date just in case (backup Tuesday 19th).
New flyfishers will particularly enjoy the Mooneyes since when they are “on” they are terribly keen to hit a fly. There is no fee, just come on out and have some fun. Bring bushy white dry flies (size 10 and smaller) and a 6 wt or lighter rod with floating line. Big spinner patterns (ie. mayfly adults that have died and fallen to the river) also work particularly near dusk. Wet flies in white or yellow can work as well (size 10-14). Bring waders and a wading staff if you have one. We meet at about 5 PM. Seneca Park park is located 1-2 miles east of Hwy #6 on #54. This is the road that parallels the river on its North side. Seneca Park is simply a narrow-grassed area between #54 and the river. The parking lot is right where you enter the park. The water should be no deeper than thigh level. Be careful of the odd pot hole.
Note: We will be out in June only if the water in the Grand is less than about 40 m3/s. Anything higher than that and it is just too tough and dangerous to fish. You can check the water levels here: http://apps.grandriver.ca/waterdata/kiwischarts/rf_lowergrand.aspx .Guests and non members welcome.
Family Fun Day Saturday June 15th 2019 10:30 AM – 2 PM
At Courtcliff Park on Carlisle road just east of Highway 6 ( Go east at breezy corners Courtcliff park is 1km on the left, just before Centre Road)
HAFFT have been asked by TUC Ted Knott Chapter to assist with a kids fly tying table at the family fun day. Volunteers Robin Bennet, John French, Peter Bagley and Jim Fisher. Also helping TUC are Bill Xmas, Doug Whitford and Jim Fisher Volunteers need to be there at 09h00 to help set up.
Saturday, June 15th at Courtcliffe Park in Carlisle, will be the annual Duck Dash race down Bronte Creek and Family Fun Day in Courtcliffe Park. This is a great event for the whole family in conjunction with Halton Conservation and Trout Unlimited. There will be wooden fish to paint, obstacle courses, fishing and casting games and a free BBQ. Buy a Duck Dash ticket for $5.00 and watch your duck in the race. Winners announced at the finish line. Tickets can be purchased at ScotiaBank in Waterdown.For more information

Two events this weekend:
Saturday May 4th 2019 Primrose Trout Farm. Starting at 10am only 1hr 20 min from Hamilton. Catch and release $30 CASH per person. For more info see http://www.primrosetroutfarm.com/. The Trout Farm is just south of route 89 between Primrose and Shelbourne on Blindline which is one block west of Highway 10. Address is 595646 Blindline Mono Ontario L9V 0Z4
Rick and I pre fished Primrose before the main ponds had opened. We went through barren periods, then some exciting periods, both of us caught well, on a variety of streamers, nymphs and even a dry fly or two. I had most success with a dry fly with a nymph on a dropper. The surround of the ponds were quite spongy, wellington boots are recommended.
Sunday May 5th 2019 Casting Practice
At Lowville Park (On Guelph Line 5km north of Highway 5) Starting at 9am on the grass to the south of the trail heading east from the kids play area. More experienced fly fishermen will be on hand to coach and assist. Bring a light rod and tackle and you can try for some trout in the river afterwards. No need to book.

“I begin by outlining how important fishing was to Tom Thomson, the artist. Fishing even plays a role in his mysterious death in 1917. But what is of more interest to your club is the fact that, in contrast to what prominent Canadian writer Roy MacGregor argues in Northern Light, Tom was a fly fisherman. Moreover, he tied his own flies and might have even matched the hatch years before Preston Jennings helped make the practice commonplace in North America. I contend that, by virtue of being Canada’s most famous artist, Tom is Canada’s most famous fly angler–and should be acknowledged as such. This is one the chapters in my book of essays on fly fishing, Casting into Mystery, which will be published by Porcupine’s Quill, next September.”

The Greg Clark chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada is having its AGM on Saturday, March 23rd.
The guest speaker is a professor Michael Fox from Trent university’s fisheries dept. He is doing a radio tagging study on urban brook trout in Peterborough.

Tying Night with Ryan Taylor

Ryan is a local fly fisher from Burlington. Ryan was featured in the latest issue of Swing the Fly.
He will be discussing steelhead flies, and we will tye one or two if time permits.
We will have fly tying materials for the patterns and a few spare vices and tools.
Membership dues have not changed and are now payable. $30 for single and $45 for families. As usual we will still charge $3 at the door and $2 towards fly tying materials on tying nights, where we supply materials.
